About »

Radio the Ape was founded in 2005 by Trevor Scheer, Art Sullivan and Matt Ploss. They were in 7th grade at the time. What brought them together was not only a mutual love and appreciation of music, but the fact that they had been friends since elementary school. Art, Trevor, and Matt listened to music together, learned how to play their instruments together, and eventually started writing music together. With influences including Jack Johnson, Arctic Monkeys, and The Fratellis, the band found themselves writing primarily mellow, occasionally edgier, dance rock. "Our music has changed along with our tastes over the years," agrees the band. Playing mostly in the Ithaca area, Radio the Ape fell into a schedule of writing and rehearsing music during the school year, and recording what they could over the summer. This recording process was made easier with the help of Chris Ploss (FLUXUS, Kites In Space, and Matt''s older brother), who has singlehandedly recorded and produced all of Radio the Ape''s music to date. Most recently, the band has grown in size with the addition of second guitarist and bassist Jacob Kotler. They continue to write and play music together and are very excited to be a part of sixteen sixteen.
