As I sit at my computer exactly one week before the biigest show our band has ever played, I can't help but reflect upon our skills of preparation. I recall specifically our first show with Ithaca Underground, at the venue formerly known as No Radio Records, back in 2008. We put off all rehearsal until the last week, the plan being to "have an upbeat, all-night montage of practicing the night before" according to Art.

The Show went decently, all things considered.

Another instance I can think of is our playing at the battle of the bands last winter, when we had exactly one band practice the night before the show. Granted, it was only for a three song set. The third song was a cover of the theme from Scooby-Doo, in which I played the drums (I put the Ploss family name to shame on a drumset,) Art played bass, And Trevor played guitar and sang. The idea to play this song was introduced, you guessed it, exactly one night before the show, at the previously mentioned single practice, and we ended up closing with it.

We won the battle of the bands.

So finally I am torn from the nostalgia that surrounds our half-assed habits and inability to take ourselves seriously, and reminded of what this next week holds in store. A gig. A gig in front of 10,000 people. A gig which, although we obtained half-assedly and found impossible to take seriously at first, has become associated in all of our minds with oppurtunities beyond the band's current comprehension.

We've been practicing non-stop the last couple weeks, probably more than any other span of time in the bands history, and yet we still feel unprepared. I guess the only thing left to do is concentrate on getting our last few practices in this week and keeping up with our school work, and let the scale of what's happening next Sunday sink in when we're on the plane to LA. Wish us luck.
